A New England Patriots fan told Joe Fitzgerald at the Herald that some overzealous Pats fans beat up him, his friend, and his cousins, who happened to be Jaguars fans and who were wearing Jaguar gear, after the Pats-Jaguars game.
Brian Wormstead recounts the appalling pummeling he received in the parking lot after a brief exchange with the Pats fans: "I just know I’ve got a punctured eardrum and lumps all over me; Chris has cuts all over his face; and Jeff got pretty messed up, too. People passing by were kicking and punching for no reason."
Making it even worse is the fact that Wormstead has worn Pats gear to Jaguars games, and no one bothered him. Hell, Bostonist has known people who wore NY Giants gear to Oakland Raiders games and didn't have a problem.
Wormstead said he didn't blame the Patriots organization, but surely something could have been done to stop these douchebags. Security in the parking lot, maybe? Better training for staff so people don't get overserved? Crap like this makes New England look like a bunch of thugs. Obviously, these losers aren't confident enough in their manhood.
Bostonist has seen one of these stupid fights at Fenway, when the Red Sox played the San Francisco Giants and people were amped about Barry Bonds and the 'roid scandal. It wasn't clear who started it, but alcohol was definitely fueling the fight, and the Fenway security swiftly threw out the offenders. So, if the Fenway Park staff can keep some thugs from ruining everything, why can't Gillette?
Speaking of fan rudeness, Indianapolis Colts fans booed 15-year-old Anna Grant who won the Punt, Pass & Kick competition and wore a Pats jersey when she was honored at the Colts stadium. Klassy. On the bright side, the Patriots will honor her on their home turf.
