Randy Moss Did Indeed Get Served With a Restraining Order

011608-randy-moss.jpgUpdate: Adam Reilly takes a close look at the words Moss chose to describe the situation, along with a past incident in which Moss pushed a traffic control officer half a block with his car while he was in Minnesota.

Earlier today, the Sports Redux mentioned a story spotted at Sports by Brooks noting that a Randy Moss had been served with a restraining order in Florida. However, it was unclear whether or not the Randy Moss in question was the Randy Moss. Deadspin questioned the veracity of the post. Then the story caught fire.

The story is true--or at least the part about Moss getting a restraining order. Moss is now denying that he has assaulted anyone in Florida and claims that the whole incident is an extortion attempt. He told reporters, "In my whole entire life of living, 30 years, I have never put my hand on one woman, physically or in an angry manner." The whole transcript is at the Globe.

The alleged victim states that, on January 6, Moss "beat her and then refused to allow her to seek medical attention."

The Smoking Gun has the court papers. The alleged victim says that she and Moss have been involved since 1997. In the documents, she checked boxes saying that Moss has weapons and a drug and alcohol problem.

She also checked off a box answering "yes" to the question "Is the respondent expecting this order?"

And were Pats fans expecting this order? While it seems harsh--this is a case of domestic violence, after all--people will be asking if the incident will affect the Patriots' play. This Bostonist figures it won't. If the Pats have played through VideoTapeGate and BabyDaddyGate, then the rest of the Pats can handle themselves while Moss deals with these allegations.

The curious thing is that Randy said he is guilty of an ''accident''. Whatever that means.
