MBTA's Grabauskas Skipping Town?

MBTA General Manager Dan Grabauskas is on vacation in Thailand, which is in itself not a crime. However, the Herald is reporting that Grabauskas left for vay-cay as an Amtrak strike looms.

But is it a story? Rarely do we defend the MBTA, but Joe Pesaturo at the MBTA noted that the earliest time a strike can take place is January 30. Then again, a possible strike would be a "giant snowball of crappiness" for commuters, and some workers for Patrick are mad that Grabauskas didn't stay in town. The city needs to be ready for that snowball. Pesaturo said that Grabauskas left "detailed contingency plans" in case something came up.

Pesaturo said that a strike was "highly unlikely," and the New York Daily News reports that Amtrak and Amtrak workers might be able to agree on a contract before the deadline.

So, what do you think?

How do you think Dan gets to the airport? Blue Line, or Silver Line?

@Michael Femia
BWAHHHHHHHHHH!!!!! AHAHAHA AHAA HA HA

i f-ing hate the MBTA so much. But I think its correct to say that even is Grabuaskas was here, he wouldn't be able to do a damn thing about the strike. The MBTA is the worst. Ugh.

i'd like to see grabuaskas waiting outside in the freezing cold waiting for the number 11 bus to show up a nice 20 minutes late. i'd also like him to try and call the mbta help line to find out where the christ his bus is, only to be put on hold for 20 minutes, and then have some incompetent ass tell you there are no delays. yes there are im the one waiting out here!?!??! sorry, bit of a rant.

As public employees go, Grabauskas is a bargain. I have never seen a bureaucrat so willing to take ownership of a problem when he could have dodged it. (Other end of the spectrum? Matt Amorello.) Ask an older person what the Registry of Motor Vehicles was like before Grabauskas managed it. This is really a story about the Herald in full "William Randolph Hearst" mode. If they could start a war to sell another 500 copies, I swear they would do it. These guys have really worn thin. Finally, re Deval's workers: if I were speaking for a guy who took a summer-long sabbatical, I wouldn't raise THAT issue with a straight face.

I agree with you Aging Cynic.

"As public employees go, Grabauskas is a bargain"
"Ask an older person what the Registry of Motor Vehicles was like before Grabauskas managed it."

Oh -- it's not the T, it's Amtrak. Different people.
Mitt is the one to blame for this - he privatized the Commuter Rail because he is evil.

sorry for my blind T-rage, I know it's Amtrak and not the MBTA. The letters MBTA boil my blood. I jumped the gun because I had an out of this world horrible commute this morning.

Either way a co-worker told me that there won't be a strike, I hope this is true.
