Woulda Been There: Kimya Dawson at Newbury Comics

kimyamap2.JPGBoston, you did Kimya Dawson right on Thursday night. So right, in fact, that we can't even tell you about it.

Bostonist had fully intended to be able to report back to you today about how Dawson, the quirky and kickass singer-songwriter now captivating music fans with her work on the Juno soundtrack, performed during her 7 p.m. in-store at the Newbury Street music shop. We arrived on the scene a little later than we'd hoped, but still well before Dawson was slated to go on.

That's when we saw the line: a mass of hopeful folks that extended up Newbury all the way to Jasmine Sola (see the map to gauge the line). The word at the back of the line was that Newbury Comics folks had already said there was no way everyone would get inside.

And yet people hung out in the cold, hopeful that maybe they'd at least be able to get something signed. Bostonist was more than a little impressed. And while we thought about trying to see if we could get in to report later to those who were shut out, we knew how long people had been waiting - and we didn't want to keep any of those folks out of what they were so patiently hoping to experience. That would have just been bad concert karma.

So kudos, music fans! But now we need to turn it over to you. If you got in, how did it go? What did she perform? What was she like when she signed things post-set? Leave your details in the comments section. We'd love to know.

Google map mashup by Victoria Welch. Point A represents the back o' the line. Point B is Newbury Comics. The blue line? That's a whole lot of people.
