Is That Subliminal Kid the best nickname a person could have or what? If you want it, though, too bad--it's taken by one Paul D. Miller, also known as DJ Spooky. That Subliminal Kid is sorta like the subtitle to his DJ name. When you're important enough to have a nominal subtitle, you know you're good.

But Spooky is much more than "just" a DJ who combines electronic, classical, and hip hop music with trippy visual effects ranging from collage to video. His latest work is Creation Rebel: Trojan Records Re-Mixed, Re-Visioned, Re-Versioned, a remix of the Trojan Records catalog for its 40th Anniversary. He's also an artist, an author, and a lecturer, and he'll bring all his talents to Boston this weekend as he puts on shows for three nights at the ICA. From a lecture on Thursday to a string symphony on Saturday, DJ Spooky will have you thinking and dancing all weekend long.

Thursday at 6:30, DJ Spooky will discuss digital media, intellectual property, "the politics of perception," and more while using audio, film, and text to emphasize his points about the relationships between multimedia elements. His talk will be based on his award-winning book Rhythm Science.

On Friday at 8:00 p.m., Spook will get experimental and spin in the ICA's lobby/dancefloor. Dance your pants off (not literally, please) or appreciate the ICA's artistic offerings while also enjoying DJ Spooky's smooth sounds and sweet catering from Wolfgang Puck. DJ Spooky will be joined in sonic adventures by Ghostdad, Kingdom, DJ Lone Wolf, DJ Die Young and Baltimoroder.

It's Saturday, though, when things really get subliminal. DJ spooky will "live sample" a string trio to unite the digital age with classical and contemporary artists from Bach to Radiohead. Head to the ICA for a night that will revolutionize your conception of what's musical.
