The Somerville News reported some heartbreaking book news--McIntyre and Moore Bookstore of Davis Square, the perfect place to find literary buried treasure, is closing.
Their lease is up on April 1, and the reason for the move is that, in the age of Amazon, a place like McIntyre & Moore simply isn't as profitable. Bostonist called up co-owner Dan Moore, who had some heartening news about the closing. Chances are that the store will relocate to a smaller space, likely in Porter Square. Moore emphasized that he wants the store to remain an easy walk for customers.
To lessen the rent burden, the store also hopes to move into a smaller space and is looking at a spot that is "a little more than half" the original space. This Bostonist always made sure a trip to Davis Square led to a trip to McIntyre & Moore, if only for a few surprises, such as the sign that transforms John Milton, formidable author of "Paradise Lost," into a much cuddlier "Uncle Miltie."
