BootWatch: Tom Brady sprained his right ankle. It is a high ankle sprain viewed as minor, according to the local media types, and while it's a big enough deal to have rendered The Boot necessary in New York on Monday, it's not enough to keep QB Brady out of the Really, Really Big Game on February 3.
We're going to go out on a limb here and state that we're not going to invest much confidence in what we hear about QB sprains. Philip Rivers, after all, was suffering a ACL injury and sprain suffering a sprain as he prepped for Sunday's game at Gillette, and while we give him credit for playing with that ACL injury sprain, he didn't exactly get the job done for the Chargers. So when we hear the word sprain tossed around again, we're prepping for photos of Brady in a full-body cast to pop up on TMZ.com.
Instead, we're going to focus on whether The Boot is on and whether The Limp is visible. On Tuesday, things looked good. No boot, no substantial limp. We can all breathe easy and get back to coming up with new and inventive T-shirt designs that mock the Manning family.
We would love to report that things on the Bruins front were similarly looking up on Tuesday, but our Boston hockey team was up in Montreal. The Canadians, true to form, decided to spank the Bs. It was an ugly, 8-2 loss. But there was still good news on Tuesday - Tim Thomas is heading to the All-Star Game!
Finally, start coming up with the "Turning Japanese" jokes, people! The Red Sox are incredibly excited about their March trip to Japan, where they will play Oakland. In making this trip, the Sox will entice a whole new legion of fans to hop onto planes, come here, and bitch about the fact that the only tickets they can find for games at Fenway are marked up way too high on Stubhub. How does one say "$90 for obstructed view is wicked ridiculous" in Japanese?
