Hey, Kids! Stay on Our Lawn!
You heard that right--"on our lawn" as opposed to "off our lawn." We're serious! Turns out that Boston--Boston, home of constant tension between college students and permanent residents--is one of the best 100 communities in the United States for children and young people. America's Promise Alliance spotlights the "best places for young people to live and grow up."
Mayor Menino is already touting the development in a press release. Some of the city's programs that impressed the alliance includes Camp Harbor View and Boston R.O.C.K.S. (Recreational Opportunities for City Kids).
The recognition is wonderful, but there's still a long way to go until more kids choose camp instead of gangs, as shown by the recent burst of street violence. But the award might lead to some money. All communities who were recognized can apply for $300,000 in grants, and the award might indicate to the powers-that-be that the city is deserving of money for programs like Camp Harbor View.
Other Massachusetts communities that were awarded included Barnstable County, Bedford, Brockton, Cambridge, Fall River, and Somerville. Barnstable County and Cambridge have won the award three times.

LOL!!!!!!!!!! That picture made me snort! HAHAHAHA
