Sarah Borges let out a warm laugh. "I feel like I'm spinning plates," she said.

Since the Taunton native and her band, the Broken Singles, released their debut full-length, "Silver City," in 2005, the band has been busy. But it was the June release of "Diamonds in the Dark" that really set things into high gear. Thousands of miles have been logged on the touring van. There have been the concert dates across the country, a video shoot at the Lizard Lounge and Arlington's Regent Theatre, an appearance at the 2007 Boston Music Award to pick up her first BMA (Best Local Female Vocal), strong efforts to stay connected to friends and family back home and, earlier this month, two high-buzz, sold-out shows in the Lizard Lounge's cozy Cambridge space.

While Borges and the band will perform in Marlborough tonight, at Dante's at Firefly's BBQ, she and the band are in the midst of a relative break. There are a few weeks available for Borges to enjoy life as a Bostonian - household chores, walks through Harvard Square, a trip to the Aquarium - but the plates still need to be spun.

"We're going to demo some songs that have the potential to get onto the next album," Borges said during a recent phone interview. "Then later, we'll do the thing for real, the same way we did 'Diamonds in the Dark.'"

"Diamonds" indicates that she and the Singles know a thing or two about a winning formula. A longtime Boston singer-songwriting staple in the indie rock scene, Borges became Boston's reigning Americana queen with the June release.

The 12-song album is a rich and confident strut through Americana, alt-country and pop. Borges lights the torch when she layers her vocals over drums and slide guitar on a cover of X's "Come Back To Me," but is bobbing her head and pounding through a pop-punk-do-wop (should we say pop-wop?) "Stop and Think It Over" on the very next track. The influences found on the album suggests a band one would find working out of a Memphis or Austin home base.

Simply put: when the album dropped, Borges didn't sound Boston. Borges said reception on the road was more enthusiastic than back home. Now, as demonstrated by the Lizard Lounge crowds and the BMA nod, Boston has finally taken note.

Borges said that among the band members, there are individual penchants for indie rock, pop and jazz, all of which come together beneath the banner of "American music."

"We never set off to write songs in a particular vein," Borges said of the "Diamonds" sound, "but that's a place where we all meet."

Judging from the acclaim and the plans for the future, it's an awfully nice place to be.
