Monday Happenings

Late-Breaking Event
Johnny Pesky will be at the Barnes & Noble in Peabody tonight from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm signing books.

Movies
A Hong Kong drug-runner (Asia Argento) finds herself in trouble in Boarding Gate, Olivier Assayas' stylish thriller, which comes with side orders of sex and violence. Make that heaping side orders, plus a dash of Sonic Youth's Kim Gordon. (She acts? Who knew?) Assayas will be at the Harvard Film Archive along with Argento and actors Michael Madsen and Carl Ng.

For a dose of the classics, head to the Coolidge Corner Theater and get schooled by Akira Kurosawa's The Seven Samurai. 7:00 pm.

Books
It's a Poet Laureate Cage Match! Former Poet Laureate Robert Pinsky and current Laureate Charles Simic will read at the JFK Library, 5:30 pm, free.

Food
Think Vindaloo is wimpy? Think you have a palate of steel? Alrighty, then, badass, you can test it at Hell Night at the East Coast Grill, during which the restaurant will sell scathingly hot dishes such as Pasta From Hell tonight, tomorrow, and Wednesday night. Prepare yourself, if you dare.

Jocelyn Celeste contributed to this post. Promo photo of Asia Argento and Michael Madsen from Boarding Gate. It's one of the few safe-for-work ones. If you're feeling daring, check out the trailer.
