Reel Hub: Possibly the Worst Movie Ever Makes Money?

012908-spartans.jpgMeet the Spartans, which is now at 3% on Rotten Tomatoes after starting off in the negative, is enjoying the number-one position at the box office this week. Meanwhile, Sylvester Stallone's comeback vehicle of-sorts, Rambo, wound up in second place.

Seriously, Diedrich Bader is cool, but you're way better off watching him as a "Dog the Bounty Hunter" rip-off during this season's "Reno 911." At least Mark Feeney at the Globe found something to like about it. He said it was less "scuzzy" than an earlier movie by the same filmmakers, Epic Movie.

Untraceable, with Diane Lane hunting a cyber-killer, debuted at an underwhelming fifth place, and Cloverfield's buzz wore off quickly, falling to fourth place. Maybe audiences decided big dumb humor was a way to get rid of the winter blahs.

Yet you're not stuck with multiplex junk food. Olivier Assayas' Boarding Gate will be at the Harvard Film Archive tonight, and the HFA will also kick off the series "Arthur Penn, American Auteur" on February 1. Penn will be at the HFA Friday, February 1, for screenings of The Chase and The Tears of My Sister. Let's Get Lost is also running at the Brattle Theatre through the 7th.

Still from Rotten Tomatoes.
