Representing on Reality TV: The Odd Couple

020308-mo-bobby-b.JPGTwo episodes of CMT's "Gone Country" have already aired, and Bobby Brown is on his way to becoming a country-music star, of sorts. Bostonist wasn't sure about watching because the show is in Nashville, not Boston, but Bostonist couldn't resist seeing Boston's bad boy on another reality show. And "Gone Country" doesn't disappoint for sheer weirdness.

Bobby Brown isn't the only one aiming for country music stardom. Dee Snider, Carnie Wilson, Diana DiGarmo, Maureen McCormick, Julio Iglesias Jr. (aka, "not-Enrique"), Sisqo, and Brown all live in a Nashville mansion, where Big & Rich member and mega-producer John Rich grooms them. Eventually, he will choose the cast member who would be most successful at crossing over into country, and that person will get a record deal.

But the real thrill of the show is watching Brown interact with his castmates. When the rest of the cast learns Bobby Brown is involved, Dee Snider asks, "Isn't he in jail?" Maureen McCormick says in her confessional, "Oh, no!"

But Brown swiftly seduces Marcia Brady, and she is soon smitten with Bobby Brown. He must have some mysterious powers over the ladies, as he captivated Whitney Houston and caught Marcia Brady's eye. McCormick at first bonds with Brown because they are fellow smokers, but she is soon letting him lasso her up, which leads to the following glittering dialogue:

Bobby Brown: "I got me a Brady!"
Maureen McCormick: "I like that!"

Marcia, Marcia, Marcia! Screengrab of Bobby Brown and Maureen McCormick from Gone Country. More on the show after the jump!

During the next episode, McCormick tries to get Brown up after a night drinking, and he is not in the mood. He winds up sleeping as the rest of the cast goes shopping to prepare a dinner, but he eventually emerges to work in the kitchen.

After the meal, the cast heads down to a club for a "MuzikMafia Throw Down," and cast members must perform the songs for which they are known best. Of course, Brown belted out a version of "My Prerogative." And for all his problems, for all the years that have passed, Brown still has a powerful stage presence. Some performers can just hang on to their talents through anything.

When Dee Snider does "We're Not Gonna Take It," Brown just can't resist joining in Snyder's routine and throwing in a call-and-response. Snyder is not used to this sort of enthusiasm. He was a stage-hogger, not a boy-bander, so he is tempted to beat on Brown for a while. The episode ended, and another rumble between Mr. Twisted Sister and Bobby Brown is brewing.
