Republican presidential aspirant and former Massachsuetts governor Mitt Romney is the projected winner of the state of Massachusetts over John McCain this Super Tuesday, according to CNN. And that victory was by no means a given since Romney didn't exactly leave Massachusetts wanting more.
However, Romney is still fighting for states, and Mike Huckabee (plus buddy Chuck Norris) is racking up enough votes that neither one can catch up to the front-runner, John McCain. Huckabee even saw fit to rub Romney's lack of momentum in his face by telling an audience, "A lot of people are saying this is a two-man race. It is! And we're in it!"
Meanwhile, the AP has projected, as of 9:15 pm, that Hillary Clinton won in Massachusetts. Foon Rhee reported what the Clinton campaign had to say about it, and they got in a dig at Ted Kennedy and John Kerry: "One of the biggest surprises of the night is Massachusetts....Despite the fact that Senators Ted Kennedy and John Kerry were actively supporting and campaigning for Obama, Hillary Clinton won the state."
Boston.com has a county-by-county breakdown, but few reports are in yet. So far, Revere, Chelsea, and Everett were strongly for Clinton. Needham, Wellesley, and Newton went for Obama.
On the media front, Boston.com got so amped about the potential breaking news tonight that they sent out multiple test posts with various messages such as, well, "test message" and "this is a test."
