Tuesday was supposed to be a glorious day. A crowd was to stand in the rain, braving the elements to cheer for the football heroes ambling down roads lined in blue and red. And after the last bits of confetti were cleaned up, the celebratory mass of people would tune in to cheer for their basketball team's winning ways.
Clearly, that didn't happen. Instead, Boston was treated to a day of quiet coaches, plea-entering players, another day in without the Lombardi and a loss from our local Green and Yellow. The Boston sports scene, it would seem, missed the memo.
We're going to be quick, because there's little pleasant to report. Bill Belichick conducted a conference call with the media yesterday, and he was as unwilling to address any topic as ever (which is great when we're winning, not so much when we're looking for answers). According to B Squared, it's too soon to discuss the future Patriots roster. The Super Bowl loss was a disappointment. He left the field a second early because he thought the game was over (this is a little more believable after Belichick refers to Tuesday as the first day after the season, proving that he has no sense of time).
Meanwhile, Willie Andrews pleaded not guilty Tuesday to charges that he dealt marijuana, the NFL was looking to track down a former Pats video man to continue Spygate investigations, and six Patriots players were trying to lick their wounds while prepping for the Pro Bowl.
Looking for comfort in the arms of the Bruins or Celts? Fat chance. The Bruins dropped a game to the Sabres at the TDBN Garden, 4-2, while the Celtics managed to score 113 points while on the road in Cleveland - and they STILL lost, 114-113.
For those curious about what went wrong for the Celts, we'll break it down for you: Ray Allen had 24 points, Rajon Rondo added 20, and the Celtics defensive game decided to stick around back in Boston. It was that bad.
