MittWatch: Romney Aide Is Super Trooper No More
Well, at least somebody within the Romney campaign got some good news after Super Tuesday. DA Dan Conley announced that he won't press charges against former Romney aide Jay Garrity.
No, Garrity wasn't the Romney aide who put a picture of himself in a hot tub on mySpace. He was the guy who allegedly pretended to be a police officer and hassled a reporter. According to the AP, Garrity was cleared of pretending to be a police officer during a phone call:
"An extensive review of phone records, financial transactions and other documents has provided no evidence that Mr. Garrity placed that call," said a statement issued by Conley spokesman Jake Wark. "In fact, evidence points away from him."
Whether or not Garrity has a law-enforcement fetish, he won't be getting into any serious trouble in either Massachusetts or New Hampshire, where he was also accused of playing cops 'n' reporters. So, does this mean the State Police will take him?
All charges alleged until proven--or cleared, in this case--under law.

OK, so you're presuming he's guilty, regardless of what the cops say? WTF? If Carl McGee worked for Romney, do you think THAT story would have percolated for a month and a half?
To answer your justified "WTF," I think my wording was off. I just used the word "cleared" to indicate that Garrity never had to go to trial. If he's innocent, he's innocent. I think that my alarm bells of suspicion go off whenever someone resigns following an alleged incident--and they probably shouldn't if they're innocent, right? We don't know whether he resigned of his own free will or if he was "encouraged" to resign.
About McGee, I am surprised that the story was so quiet after it was reported in Florida. Stay tuned because I think much more is to come on this. The Globe is going to have to address charges (all charges alleged) against one of their top stylish people!
