Sports Redux: Curt's Got It Bad And That Ain't Good

schillingshoulder.JPGIn theory, our eyes are supposed to be now turning from the failed Patriots 2007 campaign to the promise of the upcoming Red Sox season. Truck Day is tomorrow (Bostonist will be there), and the Sox can lift spirits around here like nothing else.

Wait, not so fast. The big story yesterday was about injury, and controversy, and misery, and woe. It's almost good to have the old Sox back. The story centers around Curt Schilling's shoulder (pictured here), which he thought would have healed by now after the three-month break. Well, it's not, and it's going to keep him out until the All-Star break, at least.

Which would be bad, but manageable. We didn't trade away all of our young pitchers for Santana, so at least there's not a gaping hole in the rotation. So that's OK. But now there's controversy, maybe. There were rumors that there was a difference of opinion as to whether Schill needed surgery (he doesn't, and it could have knocked him out for the season if he did), and some discussion of who knew about this injury when Curt signed his one-year extension. Now everyone's on the same page, publically at least, so frankly we don't know who to curse, except the Fates. Stupid Fates.

The Celtics are in Minnesota, where Kevin Garnett may or may not appear and may or may not be honored by the Timberwolves for his years of service. The Bruins play Buffalo tonight for the 56th time this season; they lead the Sabres by just two points for the 8th playoff spot, so this is kind of a big deal.

Truck Day tomorrow!
