Sunday Happenings

Chinese New Year
Harvard Square is celebrating the Year of the Rat with a Lion Dance Parade. Perhaps even more meaningful for some Cambridge residents, the Hong Kong (yay scorpion bowl!) is holding an open house in honor of its 54th anniversary. But be aware that they are having a craft party, not a scorpion bowl party. 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm, free.
Art Instruction
You've seen the MFA's British Prints show, and you are ready to launch your own stylistic revolution. SMFA instructor John Schulz will demonstrate woodblock and linoleum-cut printmaking, low-budget techniques that will bring out your inner Vorticist. Riley Seminar Room, Museum of Fine Art, 12:00 pm to 3:00 pm. Free.
Chili Cook-Off
What requires a stronger stomach? Eating two dozen chili recipes or eating at the Abbey Lounge? On the plus side, no cooking will be done on premises. About 25 chili-meisters think they've got the best in town and have entered the "1st Annual Great Chili Cookoff" in "meat" or "veggie" category. Eat, vote for your favorite, and wash down with a cheap brew. Abbey Lounge, Inman Square, 2:00 pm - 5:00 pm, free.
Movies
In this culture-clash comedy The Band's Visit, an Egyptian police band gets lost and winds up in an Israeli town, where the residents host them. Director Eran Kolirin will on hand for a special, free sneak preview. Coolidge Corner Theater, 7:00 pm. Tickets will be handed out a half-hour before the movie.
Rick Sawyer and Rob Vassegh, who runs Cheap Thrills Boston, contributed to this post. Image of the Hong Kong by afagen from photos tagged "Bostonist" on Flickr.
