Sports Redux: They'll Be Eating Beans in Chestnut Hill All Week

It was the rarest of rare occasions: a Beanpot final that didn't involve BU. Instead it was Boston College and Harvard, with the Eagles leading by two midway through the third period. BC almost blew it before taking control in overtime and winning on a Nick Petrecki goal. So two overtime wins for Boston College. And a very relieved Jerry York. BU beat Northeastern in the consolation game.

Pitchers and catchers don't have to be in Fort Myers for a few more days (we'd like to extend the concept, by the way, and have a day when shortstops and right fielders report), but the pitching staff is already assembling. Daisuke Matsuzaka showed up early, along with Josh Beckett and Clay Buchholz. Clay's been bored out of his mind, spending much of the winter trying to throw a no-hitter on an unidentified video game. He's ready to go.

If you're ready to try out your baseball skills, all you have to do is book a large party at Game On, cough up $50 to $75 a head, and you too can take BP in the visitor's batting cage. Or you can do what we do, which is go up to Richardson's in Middleton, pay like two bucks for the batting cage there, and have some fresh ice cream. (The preceding is an sincere and unpaid endorsement.)

The Bruins will try to keep the Garden at a Beanpot-level of intensity tonight when they host the Whalercanes; the Celtics are in Indiana, and don't expect to see Kevin Garnett again until after the All-Star Break. Which means we won't see Kevin in the All-Star Game. Drat. We will see Paul Pierce (and Doc) in the main game, and Rajon Rondo in the Rookie/Sophomore game. The way Rondo is playing, he may be on the main stage before too long.

The Perjury Bowl continues today on Capitol Hill, where either Brian McNamee or Roger Clemens will likely set himself up for some big-time consequences. We hope it's Clemens for many reasons, not least to see the ethics-minded New York Post renounce the two Yankee World Series wins Roger participated in.
