He was the last man added to the Eastern All-Star team. When KG scratched, he waited for the call, only to find it went to Rasheed Wallace. When Washington's Caron Butler went down, the call finally came. He had to cancel the fishing trip and make plans to go to New Orleans.
And when he got there, Ray Allen was awesome. He scored 28 points in 19 minutes, mostly in the fourth quarter, to lead the East to a 134-128 victory in a game that rewrote the book on defensive basketball. Rewrote it into a language nobody on hand spoke. But no one watches the ASG for good basketball, they watch it to see superstars being superstars, which is why you might have a case to grumble that the MVP Award went to LeBron James instead of Ray. But don't grumble for too long, because Ray and Doc both think it was a good idea. The other active Celtic, Paul Pierce, scored 10.
"[I] couldn't pick him out of a lineup," said Bill Belichick about the alleged Patriots insider who is threatening to bring down the whole organization over videotaping malfeasances. Coach Bill made a rare public appearance and said that he still feels the taping was legal, as they didn't use anything in the game at hand. He also says it ranked "one" on a scale of 1 to 100 in importance. Asked whether he ordered a taping of the Rams' walkthrough before his first Super Bowl win, Belichick said, "We don't even film our own."
No controversy in Florida at the moment worth mentioning. Let's keep that up. Curt Schilling talked to reporters this morning. He just wants to get better and pitch.
