-- If you saw a red-handed man downtown today, he was probably a bank robber. Police are searching for a man in his 50s in connection with the afternoon hold-up of the First Federal Savings Bank. The man fled the scene in a cab until a red dye pack in his loot bag exploded. He then fled on foot. Confidential to cabbies: people running from a bank with a bag of money are likely to ruin your upholstery. [Globe]
-- This robbery comes as no surprise to the Globe's Tania deLuzuriaga, who penned an excellent feature on Boston's bank robbery epidemic. [Globe]
-- We're beginning to think that the groundhog predicted six more weeks of brawling. Beloved Harvard Square joint Charlie's Kitchen saw an early morning fist fight erupt last week. Two Somerville men, one shirtless, mixed it up in the snow Wednesday over an offer of a drink. The men, 27 and 28 years old, were childhood friends. [Cambridge Chronicle]
-- A Stow woman was arraigned yesterday on charges that she stabbed a man Sunday during a domestic dispute. Police and prosecutors have released few details about the incident. The victim is expected to survive. [Beacon-Villager]
-- A Newbury man was arrested after police found what the Herald called "an arsenal" in his home. David Balkus, 48, was charged with 25 counts of improperly storing firearms, two counts of recklessly endangering a child, and possession of a dangerous weapon. Among the weapons, which police claim were in easy reach of Balkus's two children, was a high-powered .50 caliber rifle, described by police as "a cannon." [Herald; Globe]
All charges alleged until proven under law.
