Unnecessarily Graphic Headlines a Persistent Problem at Tufts Daily
It turns out that Tisch Library at Tufts University is pervier than a Red Line train during rush hour. Under the headline "Public masturbation a persistent problem at Tisch Library," Tufts Daily reports that, in the past year, four women claim to have encountered inappropriate public acts of self pleasure in the library. It sounds hilarious, but it is sexual harassment.
On February 10, a man was picked up by the police for "motions or gestures in the area of his private parts." There wasn't enough evidence to arrest him (we hear they could only get a partial description), but a trespasser warning was issued and police advised the gentleman to make his next "Party of One" a private affair.
The netizens of Somerville have faced this problem before, and some have argued that getting "the shaft from society" entitles a person to special masturbation rights. Bostonist is dubious.
Tisch Library is open to the public and the Daily reports that security will be increased to prevent any future Jacks (or Janes) from helping themselves to themselves. But will it be enough? If you are a Tufts student or Somerville/Medford resident, do you feel safe in Tisch Library? Will this have an impact on the Naked Quad Run?
All charges alleged until proven under law. Michael Femia and C. Fernsebner contributed to this post.
