Wednesday Happenings
Dark Side of the Moon, Sorta...
--The last lunar eclipse for the next 2 years is happening tonight. With binoculars or even the naked eye, the moon will start to look pretty darn red around 9:00 pm EST, as if the green cheese has turned into a port wine spread. The prime time will be between 10pm and 10:30pm. Why not get a better look at an obsevatory? Harvard Observatory, 60 Garden St, Cambridge, 9:00pm to 11:00pm, free.
Music
--Flogging Molly will whip the Palladium in Worcester into shape tonight. The band tours in support of Float, due out March 4.
--During lunch, La Donna Musicale performs classical & baroque compositions composed by composers who were not dudes: Barbara Strozzi, Antonia Bembo, Elisabeth Jacquet de la Guerre, Julie Pinel & Anna Bon. NU Fenway Center (formerly St. Ann’s Church), 77 St. Stephen Street, noon, free! (They'll be at the MIT Chapel tomorrow, also at noon, also free.)
--Darkbuster's Hometown Throwup continues with The Scars and The Morgan Knockers. Bostonist has the scoop about all the bands playing this week's Throwup. Harper's Ferry, 9:00 pm, $10.
If you're feeling frisky and frigid, head to the Winter Warmer Fundraiser for the Melanoma Foundation of New England's marathon team. A suggested $25 donation gets you in the door for specialty cocktails and lite bites at the Sanctuary (189 State Street) from 5:30-8:00, all while helping a good cause.
The Cannon Canon
Harvard Film Archive screens Sergei Eisenstein's Battleship Potemkin, so you can go tonight and stop pretending you've seen it. Harvard Film Archive, 7:00 pm, free.
Digital Evolution
Craig R. Barrett, chairman of Intel, will speak at MIT about the evolution of technology around the world. Great for anyone wondering how to best use technology to the benefit of themselves or their fellow citizens. Wong Auditorium, Tang Center, Building E51, 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm, free and open to the public.
