Bostonist Fashion: Keeping Winter From Wrecking Your Skin

winter%20skin.JPGMuch to the dismay of many of us out there, we can thank that overgrown rat from Pennsylvania for six more weeks of winter. Now while this might prove many people’s point that nothing good comes out of that state, Punxsutawney Phil's response means four more weeks of bad weather and dry indoor heating that will take a toll on your skin. But the Bostonist is here to help. We know your pain, so we did some research and found some of the best products to help you combat the winter elements.

One of the best things to come out of NYC is probably Bliss spa. They seem to have products for everything and are one out of many best cosmetic friends a girl (or guy) should have. During the chilly months, they release special edition products made to help us survive the long winters. This year they brought out Snow Wonder Body Butter. This vitamin A & E lotion infused with antioxidants will give you that healthy glow you have during the warm months and heal your skin from wind and bitterly cool air. Another product you should try is their Vanilla & Bergamot Body Butter. It leaves your dry and chapped skin soft, and you won’t have that greasy feeling afterwards. You'll also receive compliments galore on this sweet-smelling treat.

More tips after the jump! Post contributed by Jocelyn Celeste. Bostonist was not contacted by any these companies to promote their product.

Now during the winter, most of us have to change what facial cream we use. You want something heavy enough to fight the elements, but still brightens your skin and kicks those fine lines and wrinkles' proverbial butt. With that, you should try Hope in a Jar by Philosophy. Philosophy is the cosmetic line that your dermatologist would approve of you using and, if the stories are true, plastic surgeons actually promote the use of this cream. After a few days of using it, your skin is going to be glowing and looking younger, while still protecting you from everything that can affect your skin during the winter.

Now, after you’ve used everything in your medicine cabinet not to look like you’re as dry as the Sahara this winter, a breakout or two is bound to happen. If you’re looking for something to help and you’re not about to hop on the Proactiv bandwagon, try Outer Peace Foaming Cleanser by Aveda. Aveda prides itself on using almost everything natural in their products. This product doesn’t dry you out, and you won’t have to worry about those blotchy red marks that scream irritated skin. Another favorite from Aveda is their Botanical Kinetics Exfoliant. Instead adding another step into your skin regimen, all you need to do is wash your face at night, put it on like you would a toner, and boom! You’re done. Go to bed and the dry winter skin is gone the next day.

Finally, if you don’t use it already, can we recommend Rosebud Salve? It’s been around since the early 1900’s and does everything from heal chapped lips to make your dry cuticles look soft and healthy, and it’s perfect on any little skin irritation. It’s great this time of year when you get those weird, dry skin patches, and the salve also makes a great base for long lasting lip color.

All of these products can be found either in stores like Sephora or online. Aveda has stores all over Boston and the suburbs.
