Saturday Happenings

022308-diplo.jpgDancing Hipsters
Probably most famous for dating producing transatlantic hipster heartthrob MIA, Diplo made his name DJing. He's a dance music polymath who introduced the world to Brazilian Funk Carioca and Baltimore Club while inspiring a legion of white guys in skinny jeans to invest in Serato Scratch Live. He spins in Allston tonight. Great Scott, 1222 Comm. Ave, Allston. 9:00 pm. $15.

Music
--Darkbuster's Hometown Throwup continues with Hub City Stompers, The Allstonians, and Band Of Felons. Bostonist has the scoop about all the bands playing this week's Throwup. Harper's Ferry, 9:00 pm, $10.

--If you're tired of predictable old Times New Roman, prepare to be blown away by Times New Viking tonight at the Paradise. Twisting sounds into both serif and sans, this band displays in-your-face innovations that steamroll the font's dull ubiquity.

--That girl from that song, the catchy one with the whistling, is calling herself Taken By Trees and she's playing at the MFA. Rad. Remis Auditorium, Museum of Fine Arts, 7:30 pm, $12-$15.

Comedy
Jimmy Tingle has added an extra performance of "Jimmy Tingle for President." Bostonist interviewed Mr. Tingle about his presidential platform, which is proving to be quite popular! Regent Theatre, Arlington, 8:00 pm, $25/$30.

Dance
Choreographer Robert Battle has seen his pieces performed by the biggest names in dance. Tonight BattleWorks, his dance company, will bring his colorfully bizarre work to the ICA. Catch a sample on YouTube. Institute for Contemporary Art, South Boston, 8:00 pm, $35/$31.50.

C. Fernsebner, Rick Sawyer, and Kerry Skemp contributed to this post.

The listed events were chosen by the editors of Bostonist and brought to you by the Click Here2009 Toyota Corolla.
