Tuesday Happenings

Music
021608-atlas-sound.jpgAtlas Sound, featuring Bradford Cox going solo during Deerhunter's hiatus, hits the Middle East tonight, riding a wave of praise for his new project. Cox's hometown weekly, Atlanta's Creative Loafing, raves, "Let the Blind contains Cox's most haunting and sad songs to date. It throbs with delirious depression, and is bursting with powerful, barely contained emotions." For those of you who can handle strong emotions in the bleak winter, Cox is your fella. Middle East Upstairs, $9/$10 doors.

Bostonist doesn't get hung up on what others expect from indie-rockers French Kicks who broke on NYC around the same time as The Strokes, et al. Tonight, they offer their textured pop/rock for free (courtesy of Miller & Going.com). Three of Boston's most intriguing bands -- Bon Savants, Harris, Aloud -- open. Harpers Ferry, Allston, 8:30 pm, Free w/ RSVP at Going event page.

Books
Tony D'Souza will read from The Konkans, a work of fiction based on his own life growing up in Chicago as the son of an Indian father and a white American mother. As the Christian Science Monitor explains, the plot gets complicated when the father wants to be more and more American and the mother remains attached to India. Harvard Book Store, 7:00 pm, free.

Fancy Food With Fancy Beer
Beeradvocate.com is hijacking Upstairs On The Square to pair four thoroughly-spiced courses with some carefully-chosen beers. Bostonist has recently developed quite the crush on Souther Tier Chokolat, which out-cocoas every other chocolate beer we've tried, and we're guessing it won't be bad with "Ancho chili and chocolate bread pudding." 91 Winthrop St., Cambridge, 6:30 pm, $45 per person.
