Maureen Feeney's Party Is On!
City Council president Maureen Feeney (aka "MoFee") had plans to host a big gathering--or kvetch-fest, if you will--at the Boston Convention & Exhibition Center. At the time it was originally announced, it was seen as a potential irritant to Mayor Menino and a possible traffic nightmare.
Whatever it is, it's on. The Globe describes the gathering thusly:
Her goal is to combat the voter apathy displayed in the most recent council election and address a decrease in active community leaders. The May 3 event would provide leaders of neighborhood associations and civic groups with tips on how to become more effective and encourage those groups to better communicate with one another, according to a draft outline of the summit prepared by Feeney's office.
Mayor Menino hasn't said that he will attend, but the gauntlet is thrown. He's not required to attend, but it would make him look good if he did. It would look good if a bunch of people did because people in this city have a lot to talk about--not just voter apathy but also what's happening that is causing voters to think it doesn't matter who they vote for in the first place.
