Sports Redux: Cannabis, Colvin, and Colon, oh my!

434623972_9331022059_m.jpgIt seems that the Bruins' approach to the NHL trade deadline - to hold steady and remain as is - might just pay off. On Tuesday night, against an Ottawa Senators team that the Globe kindly referred to as "thoroughly disinterested" (read: someone's will to play didn't arrive at the TDBN Garden with the rest of the Senators' gear), the Bruins cruised along to a 4-0 win, extending the winning ways that began out on the road. We're liking these results - and we're also digging Coach Claude Julien's decision to start the game with the bash brothers line (Jeremy Reich, Vladimir Sobotka, and Shawn Thornton).

In other news, it was all about the Cs on Tuesday - and for once, we're not referring to the Celtics. Here's your quick rundown:

Cannabis - We're wondering how any members of the Patriots organization would be able to find enough time to possibly sneak in puffs on a pipe or munchies, let alone to pull it off without Belichick flipping out. It would seem that it can be done, though, as a second Patriots player is facing legal problems stemming from marijuana. Kevin Faulk was issued a misdemeanor summons last week for possession of marijuana, stemming from the reported discovery of four marijuana cigarettes during a search in Louisiana. Police similarly linked Willie Andrews to marijuana after an arrest in Lowell earlier this month.

Colvin - Everyone knew that it was highly possible, if not likely, that Patriots LB Rosevelt Colvin's salary cap and injury-riddled 2007 season would result in a release. It became official on Tuesday, leaving a bit of uncertainty on the LB front (and making us hope all the more that both Bruschi and Seau hold off retirement).

Colon - New Red Sox acquisition (and former Cy Young winner) Bartolo Colon arrived at Spring Training on Tuesday. The good news? Even without throwing for a few weeks, the guy can fire off a heck of a long-throw. The bad news? He's on the 2007 Curt Schilling Spring Training Plan (showed up looking out of shape and now needs to get his arm going and whittle down that waistline).

In related news: the Sox are going to the White House today. We knew that Schill was going to be thrilled, but we'll be keeping our eyes on news about J.D. Drew, who joked Tuesday that he wanted "to get into the Oval Office and get underneath his desk and see if I can find any hidden compartments like they did in that ‘National Treasure’ movie.”

If J.D.'s not back at Spring Training tomorrow, call the Secret Service.
