Sports Redux: February of the Penguins

marchpenguins.jpgThe Bruins' win over Pittsburgh had a little something for everybody. It had scoring (including two by Marco Sturm), goaltending (Tim Thomas came one shot away from two straight shutouts), fighting (Milan Lucic exchanged pleasantries with Jarkko Ruutu for a good long satisfying while), and most importantly a win, which pulled the scorching-hot B's within four points of the Northeast Division lead. Kevin Paul Dupont analyzes why doing nothing might have been the best move at the trade deadline.

The Red Sox whaled on their college opposition yesterday as if they were the Colorado Rockies. They thumped BC 24-0 and Northeastern 15-0, getting almost all of the regulars some action and giving the college kids something to remember. We pick on Dan Shaughnessy a lot, but when he's good, he's good, like in his recap of yesterday's action.

Comings and goings continue in Patriot-land. Tedy Bruschi is coming back, signing a multi-year deal. Junior Seau is chilling on the beach, deciding if he'll join Tedy again in the linebacker corps. Asante Samuel is likely out, as he's been having very chummy chats with the Eagles, and is expected to sign with Philly soon. Kelley Washington's also back in, hoping to contribute more than the occasional amazing downed punt, Randall Gay is out, and Randy Moss remains up in the air, but everyone seems to think he'll be back.

The Celtics host Charlotte tonight; meanwhile, they've got the weekend to try to convince former (as of yesterday) Clipper guard Sam Cassell to come here for the veteran's minimum. The C's would also have to pay the rest of his Clipper salary. If there's any doubt where Sam will go, he's apparently trying to decide on whether to wear #91 or #28 in green. Denver and Dallas are expected to make pitches as well.

The Globe talks to some Celtic diehards who are suddenly getting calls again about extra tickets. The fans in the article all have sweet seats, at courtside or close to it, and claim they couldn't find anyone to go with them last year. They never called us, is all we're saying.

Penguin picture from Wikipedia. We have to see that movie again.
