Boston Blotter: Eastie Cops Double As Midwives

--Leading off with a happy story: officers in East Boston responded to a car where a woman was in labor. After her water broke in their presence, the police helped deliver the baby, put the baby in a blanket, checked that the baby was breathing properly, and then made sure the family arrived safely at Mass General Hospital. Somebody deserves a raise. [BPD News]
--Authorities are investigating a string of robberies targeting illegal immigrants by two men posing as plain-clothed police detectives. Police think there have been at least 11 of these crimes over the last six months. [Boston Globe]
--A suspect is being held without bail in the case of a 37-year-old beautician, Norma Gilles, who disappeared from her beauty shop in Malden and was found murdered two weeks later in the trunk of her car. The suspect, who has pleaded not guilty, is an ex-boyfriend who worked next door. Prosecutors say he was intensely jealous of Gilles' new relationship with another man. [Boston Herald]
--A building at the University of Rhode Island's campus in Kingston was evacuated after a bomb threat. No bomb was found. Around 700 people were expected to be in the building at the time, and they were alerted via text message, e-mail, and voicemail. [Boston Globe]
