Beat on a Yankees Fan, Lose Your Red Sox Nation Card
Some alleged boneheads should have their Red Sox Nation cards revoked, and we're not talking about Hank Steinbrenner. In a scary incident reported in the Cambridge Chronicle, a man wearing Yankees attire got beat up outside the Cantab Lounge in Central Square early Sunday morning. From the Chronicle:
The Yankees fan was transported to the hospital March 2 at 1:41 a.m. for medical treatment for head injuries, including swelling over his entire face and several facial cuts, according to police reports. The victim’s sobbing girlfriend told police the couple went to the Cantab Lounge at 738 Mass. Ave. midnight Saturday. The couple was inside the bar for a while when a large group of people came up to them and started arguing with the victim because he was wearing a New York Yankees baseball cap, according to police reports.
The Yankees fan and his girlfriend left the bar, only to have the alleged thugs (described as four white men, "some with Irish accents") follow them, throw the man to the ground, and kick him in the head. The man may have been beaten up for reasons beyond his choice of baseball attire, but the witness reports mentioned in the article suggest the whole fray erupted because of the hat.
While a Red Sox vs. Yankees rivalry is normal and even healthy, kicking in the face of someone who likes another team is ridiculous, and should this story break in the media, all Bostonist is going to say is that these thugs don't represent Red Sox Nation or the rest of us, for that matter.
All charges alleged until proven under law. Image of a genuinely fug Yankee cap from the Debbie Clemens Collection, originally published in the Sports Redux.

Not representative of the fan base as a whole? You mean the thousands of "Yankees suck" t-shirts and bumper stickers?
Now when I wear my Yankees hat in Boston, I'll have something for a Red Sox punk. I might go to the hospital, but I won't go alone.
