Sports Redux: Whatever Doesn't Kill You...
...only makes you stronger. That has to be the attitude the Bruins take today, after having their winning streak stopped, killed, set on fire, stomped, buried, and the earth salted. The good news is, they will never play a worse game than they did last night. It was 6-0 Capitals in the first period. Alex Ovechkin had a hat trick before half the fans had found their seats. Tim Thomas got pulled, put back in to hang out to dry, then pulled again. 10-2 final; the B's have to be happy they play again today and don't have this lingering over them for too long.
The Randy Moss saga, despite all its suspense and worry, ended happily yesterday. The big guy's coming back, with a 3-year, $27 million deal. The Eagles made a frantic pitch to him, but apparently Randy remembered the 18 straight wins (something we can't quite do yet) and realized that he'll be happier here than anywhere else.
It's not official yet, but probably will be today; Sam Cassell is a Celtic. Doc wants it made clear that Rajon Rondo is still the man, and Sam is coming in just to be a backup and a mentor. If you need to get fired up about Sam, Bill Simmons wrote some glowing praise of the man when he was a Clipper.
Everything's still sun and fun in Florida. Dan Shaughnessy looks at Jacoby Ellsbury. The NY Times has a long article about what makes Hank Steinbrenner tick, including a description of the new Yankee Stadium that puts us in physical pain not to compare to "Triumph of the Will". Hank and brother Hal invite Biff and Happy Loman comparisons, too. It's a fun read and it's good to know Hank should help keep the rivalry hopping. Nevertheless, we don't condone local hooligans beating up a Yankee fan in Central Square. Especially during Spring Training.
