Drinks Are On Us: Is Any Wine Worth $45,000?

Six bottles of Chateau Lafite Rothschild 1870. You can't afford them.
On March 14, Skinner, in conjunction with Lower Falls Wine Co., presents an auction of fine wines in Boston.
This is only the second fine wine auction in Boston. As an effort to earn a piece of the nearly $200 million annual wine auction market, Skinner and Lower Falls Wine Co. presented the first one back in 2007.
The auction offers something for everyone. Though single bottles can go for as little as $50-$100 each, the sky's the limit for the rest of the 244 lots available for bid. Highlights include:
- 12 bottles of Chateau Petrus - rated 98 points by Robert Parker - $30,000-$45,000
- 6 bottles of Chateau Lafite Rothschild 1870 - $25,000-$35,000
- 12 bottles of Chateau Lafite Rothschild 1982 - rated 100 points by Robert Parker - $15,000-$25,000
- 11 bottles of Chateau Lafite Rothschild 1982 - rated 100 points by Robert Parker - $12,000-$18,000
The six bottles from 1870 are exceedingly rare. This is "literally a history-making moment," according to Phil Minervino of Lower Falls Wine Co.
Skinner is located at 63 Park Plaza in Boston. Visit their website to purchase or download an auction catalog.
Lower Falls Wine Co. is located at 2366 Washington St. in Newton Lower Falls.
