Boston Politician Embroiled in Clinton-Obama Race

samyoon.jpg

When one thinks of a precendent-setting local politician with a stake in this year's Democratic primary for president, they probably think of Governor Deval Patrick. But Boston City Council At-Large member Sam Yoon is also in the mix.

Yoon became Boston's first Asian American in elected office when he won his seat in 2005. Since then the Princeton and Harvard alum has charted a progressive legislative track that's brought him much positive attention and garnered him a spot on the Democratic National Committee's Rules Committee.

A seat like this is usually a mostly symbolic pat on the back for an up-and-coming politician. But with the primary as close as it is, and with the Democratic delegates of Michigan and Florida a huge question mark, a decision by the Rules Committee could decide the outcome. Brighton Centered led us to this story and has a good rundown of the possible implications.

It's nice that we still have Boston angles--Harvard prof derides Clinton, resigns; Obama borrows from Patrick--on the national political story of the year. Though it'd be a lot easier if Mitt Romney gets picked for the Republican VP slot.
