Boston Blotter: Drug Hub Drained, Literary Namesake Nabbed
-- Breaking: Police have arrested a suspect in the March 6 double stabbing at the Roxbury Crossing Orange Line station. MBTA police apprehended an 18 year-old Roxbury man on the platform of the Jackson Square station this afternoon. Authorities say the arrest follows five days of close cooperation between Transit, Boston, and State Police.
-- It was a painful case for two alleged South Boston drug runners. Last night, a Boston Neighborhood Drug Unit raided a home at City Point and discovered over 200 grams of cocaine, 150 pills, undisclosed amounts of crack cocaine and marijuana, and 3 firearms, including an AK-47 machine gun. The street value of the drugs is estimated to exceed $30,000. Rick Joyce, 37, and James Joyce, 42, both of South Boston, were arrested and face numerous charges. [BPDNews; Globe]
-- Elsewhere in Massachusetts, New Bedford police arrested a man they describe as "a large-scale marijuana distributor." Timothy L. Almeida, 27, was charged in connection with 65 pounds of marijuana found at his New Bedford residence. Police also claim to have discovered records indicating that Almeida had distributed marijuana to local street dealers. Almeida owns a hardwood flooring company. [Herald; Standard-Times]
-- Boston Latin Academy went into "safe mode" this morning after students found a spent bullet casing in a restroom. Students were confined to classrooms as Boston police searched the Roxbury school for weapons or additional ammunition. Nothing was found and nobody has been reported injured. -- A field sobriety test was not required to arrest a 45 year-old Waltham man who allegedly crashed his truck into the Waltham Police Department during the midnight roll call this morning. Angel Hernandez, 45, was charged with his fourth count of OUI. A conviction could suspend his license for a mind-bogglingly short ten years. [Globe; Herald]
