Our friend Chris Seufert took a departure from his breath-taking Cape Cod photography with this fabulous candid shot. The over-all gritty feel is heightened by the added texture while the 'LIFER' on the pole in the background reinforces the idea of a rainy, monotonous commute.

Some of the readers out here, nah, everyone I've talked to about this, are growing tired of your mini fake-expert "lessons" about what we are supposed to "appreciate" about the photos you run. Those of us who are professional photographers find your drivel particularly annoying...

You're sounding like a know-it-all, and it's a drag. A good picture is, in fact, worth a thousand words (and sometimes many more). So how about being quiet and letting the photos speak for themselves?

Thanks for your comment.

I'd like to point out that in at least 75% of the PotD posts it is made clear that the comments which accompany the photo are simply an opinion by using such lead-ins as "we love this photo because" or "this photo caught our eye due to." The 'drivel' of which you speak is again, just an opinion. When there was a switch in Photo of the Day editors back in August it was determined that our readers wanted some sort of explanation as to the choice of photos, and as such commentary was added. If the tide of popular opinion has switched and people would rather see just a posted photo we would more than happy to oblige.

There has been a topic thread started in the Bostonist group of Flickr, I encourage all to head over and leave any thoughts and comments there so we can move forward together.

Thanks again for your help, gilbertleigh, in making Photo of the Day a better feature.
