Boston Fashion: The Summer of Shoes

book%20cover.jpg
Let’s face it, you could wear a vintage Diane Von Furstenberg signature wrap dress, and it’s nothing without the proper accessories. It’s all about the shoes. Period. End of story. Anyone who tells you different obviously is insane and you should contact your local authorities and have them locked up. So while you're watching Cindy Fitzgibbon’s forecast hoping for a day where you can walk out of the nail salon after getting the perfect pedicure without getting frost bite, why not check out some of the trends you’ll more than likely put on your feet this summer.

We’re not promoting this one trend, to be quite honest, we hoped it went to Hades last summer, but gladiator sandals are back. Again. *sigh* Joy. Now unless you’re Kate Moss, this isn’t a trend for someone who has some meat on their bones, like the majority of us out there and to be honest, they just don’t look flattering. Granted, Russell Crowe rocked them and looked damn good in them fighting tigers, but between the bulging pods of skin that pop out in-between the designs and the fact they just making your calves and ankles look bigger than they normally are, these sandals should have been left at the Acropolis.

Like most of the clothes you’ll see in the next few months, the shoes are going to be just as bright if not brighter. Animal prints (hello, giraffe!), floral prints and classic shiny patent are just a few of designs and materials you can expect to see your sandals in. Don’t be surprised to see a lot of women wearing stiletto slide sandals this summer. Stiletto slides are really just another fancy way to say Candies heels. We don’t know how this trend keeps coming back year after year, but they do and everyone from the Target’s brand, Xhilaration to Prada
have made a variation of the classic mule design this season. Just please be careful when you’re teetering on these sky high heels. You’ll look great in them; we just don’t want you to go into traction due to some misstep on Boston’s cobblestone walkways. There’s nothing sadder than a fashion victim.

This weekend, if you’re looking to take a break from the usual St. Patrick’s Day festivities, strut on over and check out the St. Patrick’s Day Second Annual Rockin’ Runway Fashion Show at Felt . on Saturday night (3/15/2008) at 10pm. D.I.Y. Queen and veteran of Boston’s Seamless Fashion Shows, Jen Paulousky will be showing her latest collection for Blue Alvarez Designs and for all of you ladies, who got engaged over Valentines, Maria of Italy will be also participating in the fashion show exhibiting the latest in bridal fashions. For more information, check out Anthem Entertainment for ticket information and tell them Bostonist sent you!

What's good about this article is that it not only discusses both fashion and weather, but it also provides information about events other than "the usual" St. Patrick's Day festivities.
