Music
Psychedelic freakout and overall freakout the Black Lips will come, see, and conquer. Maybe with a chicken. If any of the crazy stuff that often happens at their shows does in fact happen, tip us. (Oh, and the date comes from the Middle East, as the Black Lips Street Team seems to have an issue with calendars.) Middle East Downstairs, $12.
--For those of you who like your music a little calmer and likely without chicken, head to the Paradise to see the folky Jose Gonzalez with Mia Doi Todd. 9:00 pm, $22.
Grand Opening
Improv Boston is throwing open the doors to its new Central Square digs on Prospect, by the Field. Tonight's party will include a DJ and a little somethin' from Harpoon. $10 suggested donation at the door. 8:00 pm to 11:00 pm.
--Remember the days when White House press secretaries seemed to know what they were talking about? Dee Dee Myers, who worked for Bill Clinton, will talk about her latest, whose title--Why Women Should Rule the World--says it all. Wonder who she's backing for president? Brattle Theatre (via Harvard Book Store), 6:00 pm, $5.
--Crime tales in Boston aren't limited to stories about Whitey Bulger. Stephanie Schorow researched the Brink's heist of 1950, in which seven robbers absconded with $2.5 million, and details what happened after the robbers and the cash. The Hollywood take on the crime, 1978's The Brink's Job, with Peter Falk, will screen afterwards. Charlestown Branch Library, 179 Main St., Charlestown, 7:00 pm.
