Sports Redux: Ciao, Mirabelli

mirabelli.jpgWe'll never forget how Doug Mirabelli went from "the other guy" to Tim Wakefield's personal catcher. We'll never forget when he got traded, traded back, and changed into his catcher's gear while receiving a police escort today. Or the time Doug was incorrectly implicated as a fink in the mild Schilling sock controversy. We'll never forget the crack we made that, someday, Mirabelli and Wake will be buried 60' 6" from one another. And when he was sent packing yesterday, we remembered that baseball is a business. And that "Miracle" hit just .202 last year. But still, forgive us if we pour a cup of marinara sauce on the curb in Doug's honor today.

Everything else is sailing along in Florida. Manny's speaking out about...well, whatever crosses his mind. Bartolo Colon made his Sox debut, and the brass was encouraged. And even though Kevin Cash is the heir apparent to Wakefield's knuckleball buddy, the Sox tried out Tony Massarotti just in case. Let's hope Cash does better.

The Celtics go for 11 in a row tonight against Utah. Jackie Macmullen loves the way Paul Pierce has adapted to being one of the guys, while Gerry Callahan tries to figure out who the best Celtic ever is.

The TDBN Garden crew has a lot of work to do before 7:30 to get the stink of the Bruins out of the building. Desperately trying (it seems) to play their way out of the playoffs, the B's put up one measly goal last night, which they should know by now doesn't win you a lot of hockey games. "We have to be better defensively and offensively, too. And we’ve got to get more life in the game. I think that’s what’s missing, too," noted Marco Sturm. Well, guys...now would be a good time. The Flyers, one point behind the #7 B's, are next on the schedule.

Look out, Tom Brady! Gisele is posing with LeBron James on the cover of April's Vogue magazine.

Finally, Rick Pitino is going to franchise 17 Dunkin Donuts stores in Kentucky. Expect them to phase out donuts (or have they done that already?), trade the bagel toaster, and sign Travis Knight to a $22 million contract to man the hazelnut machine. Fred the Baker isn't walking through that door, folks.

Fred the Baker is rolling in his grave. I don't want Pitino anywhere near our precious Dunkies. That man ruins nearly everything he touches. Gah!
