Everyone Loves a Parade
Today is the St. Patrick's Day parade in South Boston, and we've got your guide on getting there and making the most of it. Reading this information first might save you from an appearance on the Boston Blotter. Parade route here, 1:00 pm until ... oh, whenever. We'll be watching the Bostonist Flickr stream for the best photos!
Music
The Dropkick Murphys move to the Paradise. The brilliantly named Tampoffs will open. 7:30 pm. Sold out, do what you must.
Movies About Operatic Epics
Before Zhang Yimou directed interminable, color-coded martial arts epics, he directed slower, quieter movies, and one opera: Turandot. He pulled off Puccini's "Chinese" fable in the Forbidden City, with Zubin Mehta conducting. This unlikely production is immortalized in a documentary, The Turandot Project. Coolidge Corner Theatre, Brookline, 11 a.m. $9.
Undeniably one of worst movies ever made, Wild in the Streets ponders what would happen if a hippie dippy rock star were elected president. Answer: concentration camps! Hilarious! Notable mostly for the psych-pop masterpiece "Shape of Things to Come," Bostonist never wants to see this movie again. For real. But you might. Brattle Theatre, 40 Brattle Street, Cambridge, 5:15 pm, 9:30 pm. $9.50.
Parade of the Nerds
We had a great time at Boston's last Comic Con, and, against our better judgment, we'll probably be back today. Legendary artist Carmine Infantino, co-creator of the Flash and former president of DC Comics (and recent Bostonist interviewee), will be on hand. Back Bay Events Center, 128 Berkeley St., 10:00 am - 5:00 pm. $8.
Dressing Locally
J'aime Colette is native Cantabrigian Ciel Wendel and native Somervillian Sidonie Pierce. At this afternoon's trunk show, they'll be rolling out their cute new stuff (a spring collection of pleated dresses and sleeveless tunics) surrounded lovely old stuff. History, 693 Mass. Ave., Cambridge, 1-4 p.m.
Free Booze, Literature
The Dirty Water Reading Series, which Bostonist has mentioned before hosts Get Lucky! A Reading. Come for the free food, beer, and Irish whiskey; stay for readings by Steve Himmer, Sommer Browning, Nina MacLaughlin, and Felicia C. Sullivan. Grub Street, 160 Boylston, 4th Floor, 7:00 pm. Free.
