State Street Stop Stairs Crumbling Down, Crumbling Down

031908-state-street.JPGFabulously Out There knows the Blue Line like the back of her hand, and she's used to its unusual ways, but she was dismayed at the following scene:

Walking down the stairs in the State Street T Stop on your way to the Orange line and realizing the stairs CRUMBLE under you? CHECK.

Say what?

Uh-huh.

Yesterday morning I excited my trusted blue line no hot liquid in sight and I started down the stairs to hit the orange line. There is a woman sitting on the stairs and a MBTA dude standing in front of her.

My immediate thought? A drunk? This early. Jesus christ. Then I noticed her business attire clothing and while I am walking down the stairs I am noticing several chunks of one of them crumbled on the floor.......then I pass the lady and she's in tears holding her ankle talking on her cell phone while the MBTA guy talks on his walkie-talkie.

Chunks. Of stairs. Crumbling. We had a piece in the Bite Size recently about the MBTA showing signs of rot, so this is conceivable. The woman may have twisted her ankle for everyday reasons, but the sight of crumbled stairs doesn't make us feel comfy. So, in short, as you go down State Street stairs, watch your step.
