Boston Blotter: Middleborough Child "Tortured" Authorities Say
-- A woman and her boyfriend were arrested on charges that they abused a 7 year old Middleborough boy. David Privette, 22 of Boston, was arrested Monday after the child's school filed a third report of abuse with the Department of Social Services. Police say the boy had burns on his genitals and buttocks and that Privette put them there. He was also accused of striking the boy with a belt and urinating on him. Privette has done time for crack cocaine possession and has a history of drugs and violence. He faces two counts of indecent assault and battery and mayhem.
And today, police arrested Michelle Henry, 30 of Middleborough, in connection with the incidents. Henry faces charges of reckless endangerment and assault and battery on a child causing serious bodily injury.
The DSS has been aware of neglect toward the child since 2002. The first reports of physical abuse were filed with the agency late last year. Middleborough authorities blasted the DSS for not reporting the earlier incidents to police. "This kid was sent home to be tortured for another 13 days, as far as I'm concerned, because somebody dropped the ball," Middleborough Police Chief Gary J. Russell was quoted in the Globe. "It makes you want to cry. This kid was tortured." [Globe; Herald]
