The Boston Underground Film Festival kicks off tonight with The Wizard of Gore, a remake of Herschell Gordon Lewis' original blood-fest. Only director Jeremy Kasten out-weirds Lewis by throwing Crispin Glover into the mix as stage show host Montag the Magnificent and scores of Suicide Girls as his victims. Brattle Theatre, 7:30 pm.

--Dean Wareham, of Galaxie 500 and Luna, will be reading from his memoir, Black Postcards: A Rock 'n' Roll Romance. Dodge the groupies, and prepare for panty-flingers mixed in with the literary types. Brookline Booksmith, 7:00 pm, free.

--Jennifer 8. Lee just visited The Colbert Report to explain who the General Tso is in General Tso's chicken, one of many of the Chinese food origin facts that appear in The Fortune Cookie Chronicles: Adventures in the World of Chinese Food. Harvard Book Store, 7:00 pm, free.

Speaking the Truth
Anita Hill, the woman who stood up and spoke out about sexual harassment while working for current Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas, will receive an award. Although she is best known as the person who testified against Thomas, she is a law professor at Brandeis. Boston Public Library, Rabb Lecture Hall, 6:30 pm to 8:00 pm.
