Altamont Flashbacks
Altamont NOW isn't Gimme Shelter Redux. This offering from the Boston Underground Film Festival is about a journalist who encounters "rock 'n' roll revolutionaries living inside an abandoned nuclear missile silo." That sounds so trippy, we're definitely on board. Brattle Theatre, 5:00 pm.
The Banditos Misteriosos are back with another pillow fight, only this one promises to be more badass than ever, as they'll be doing it as part of International Pillow Fight Day. Be at Copley Square at this exact spot (click for map) at 1:55 pm. Look normal, and then when the clock strikes 2:00, start swinging!
Burlesque-o-Rama, Continued
Over at the Great Boston Burlesque Expo, the burlesque dancers aren't tired from the pool party of the night before. The best of the best of the modern era will compete to win the awards of Most Classic, Most Beautiful, Most Humorous, Best Soloist, and Best Group. Ol' Scratch, Bostonist's man from Retroville, and Sarah Hartshorne, America's Next Top Model contestant, will host, and Adriel Azure & His Dream Indigo Orchestra will perform. Hyatt Regency, 575 Memorial Drive, Cambridge, 8:00 pm, $35 advance/$50 door.
Documentaries
Film and Reality, a new film series, launches today that screens two documentaries from local filmmakers and then compares them. First up is Robert Gardner's Forest of Bliss (1986), a talk-free glimpse into daily life in India, and Jane Gillooly's Today the Hawk Takes One Chick (2007), about grandparents raising their grandchildren in Swaziland after the parents have died of AIDS. MFA, Remis Auditorium, Forest at 12:30, Hawk at 2:15, discussion with Gardner, Gillooly, and critic Scott MacDonald at 3:30.
Comedy
Jimmy Tingle's campaign for president keeps on trucking. Obviously, the political shenanigans of today provide him with plenty of fodder. Check out what he told Bostonist about his current campaign. Regent Theatre, Arlington, 8:00 pm, $25/$30.
The listed events were chosen by the editors of Bostonist and brought to you by the 2009 Toyota Corolla.
