Cheap Eats: Brookline Family Restaurant

When most people think of Turkish food, kebabs and pita bread come to mind. And while Brookline Family Restaurant, located in Brookline Village, has both, they also have some more unusual items on the menu.

Under the "Turkish Pizza" section of the menu, you can find many dishes for $12 to $16 - and one at $3.50. This lone cheap eat is lahmacun, an ultra thin and crispy circle of dough topped mostly with ground lamb, plus herbs and spices. It is served with tomato, red onion, and parsley for topping. While one wouldn't be enough for a meal, it would be a nice accompaniment to another dish (or you could always order another one).

Another awesome find comes from the breakfast menu (served all day). Su boregi (choose spinach or cheese) is thin boiled noodles layered with butter and cheese. Since the recipe is fairly time-consuming, it's rare to find this dish - so take advantage of it! At only $5.95, this is a hearty and filling dish. The cheese version is especially delicious, buttery and creamy and studded with whole parsley leaves. It's a little low on salt, but that can easily be remedied.

And don't forget the apricot juice ($1.95) to round this meal out!
