MBTA General Manager Dan Grabauskas isn't the only one saying that we're broke. The entire state is broke and in even bigger trouble that you might think. Yes, we're talking "broke-ass." If you thought we were in a budget crisis, wait until you read today's paper.
Matt Viser at the Globe reports on how Massachusetts' problems are being magnified by the nation's problems. The state is drowning in debt, and it's only going to get worse: "All of this is set against the fact that the state already has the high est per capita government debt in the country - and now will be forced to borrow even more to keep a deteriorating transit system and its aging college campuses from completely crumbling."
And we don't have a choice. The Big Dig requires more care than your average newborn baby. But, hey, at least we have a pretty Greenway!
Now that we're over the sarcasm, this also makes us wonder about the governor's failed attempt at bringing casinos to the state. This is in no way an endorsement of the casinos, but since Sal DiMasi won that round with the governor, we'd like to see what ideas he has about keeping the leaky ship of state afloat.
