While Nordstrom brought Bryant Park to Burlington, the Betsey Johnson fashion show at The Estate was a decidedly more casual affair, featuring 20 minutes of fashion after 2 hours of dance music and $6 beers. It was worth the wait for the vibrant and playful prom and party dresses displayed and the trendspotting in the crowd.
In both cases, the 1980's were a clear influence. The Betsey Johnson dresses had a contemporary edge, but certainly wouldn't have looked out of place in Sixteen Candles. Bright pink and green, sequins, and ruffled layers all played a prominent role. Meanwhile, Bostonist was sitting next to a girl who appeared to have bought her dress from Madonna's Like-A-Virgin-era rummage sale.
The music was classic Bon Jovi, the hair was big, and the dresses were neon, making Bostonist feel the need to comment on the burgeoning revival of Greed Decade fashion. Take it from someone who lived through these trends the first time: ruffles and lace from Betsey Johnson? Good, fine, wonderful. Leg warmers, side ponytails, or acid-washed jeans? Bad. Very, very bad.
