Sports Journo JobWatch: Jackie MacMullan Leaving Globe

bostonglobepageone.jpg"Well-regarded sports journalist covering Boston professional sports in 2008." Seems like a guaranteed job, right? And yet Boston is preparing to say goodbye to its second high-profile sports journo this week. The Globe's Jackie MacMullan agreed to take the latest Globe buyout offer and will be bidding Morrissey Boulevard adieu. News of MacMullan's imminent departure came on Tuesday, the same day word broke that WBZ's Bob Lobel would be saying goodbye to Boston television viewers.

Boston Daily spoke with MacMullan, who says she plans to spend time with her family and freelance on occasion. We doubt the talented writer will find herself struggling to land an assignment. Shots also reports that assistant sports editor (and three-decade Globe vet) Ken Fratus will also be leaving the paper.

With two high-profile reporters and a career editor leaving, we're putting Boston Sports Journo Watch into effect. Is everyone else accounted for? And do you think Curt Schilling burst into cheers when he heard that a Globe writer was saying goodbye, then tears when he heard who it was?
