Bostonist Fashion: An Ocean Filled With Inspiration
What girl didn’t want to be The Little Mermaid living in her magical sea kingdom with her aquatic friends when she was younger? Nowadays, if a girl has a crab living with her, she should probably see a gynecologist, and the only fish most of us want to deal with on a regular basis is the kind served in sushi. But fear not, those still wanting to live the dream. This season there will be colors and accessories inspired by the sea. Blues in every hue will make you lust for the clear waters of a tropical destination.
Adrianna Papell’s dresses would look perfect on any summer day, whether you're walking on the beach or walking down the street. The dresses show different shades of blues and a beautiful aqua that flatter every skin tone. And this dress by Caribbean-colored Velvet Touch could double as a tunic for those who don't feel as free as others. Free People has a great blue and green paisley tank top would look perfect under a cardigan or suit coat at work. This ombre chiffon number would be perfect night-out attire.
For those of you who are looking for a smaller piece to sneak into your everyday wardrobe, there are many options out there. Girl Props and Urban Outfitters have made numerous pieces that are ready to be caught and worn by you. They have everything from simple shell earrings to larger necklaces with a sailboat and a compass that will never lead you in the wrong direction. If you're looking to invest your money in a timeless piece, Bostonist would like to recommend the work by Kenneth Jay Lane. Lane started off as a show designer for Dior and has designed jewelry pieces for evreryone from Jackie O to Elizabeth Taylor to Mischa Barton. His pieces are affordable and classic, and the colors are vibrant and would make everyone, including Ariel, jealous of you!
