The Boston Muslim Film Festival opens tonight with a screening of Faith Without Fear, which documents Irshad Manji's global journeys and identity struggle. The film features scenes from around the world, including Yemen, Spain, and beyond. Raquel Evita Saraswati (pictured) from Project Ijtihad will be in attendance to speak after the film.
Sponsored by the American Islamic Conference, the Muslim Film Festival is running concurrently in Boston and Washington, D.C., and is based on the theme: "Think-Different Women." Films about challenging traditional ideas make up the festival. Other scheduled films include Sand and Sorrow, a Darfur documentary; Shadya, a portrait of a young Muslim girl; and Mrs. President: Women and Political Leadership in Iran.
Despite skepticism about the Islamic Council's background, this fascinating--and free--festival definitely looks worth attending.
