Monday Happenings

1963_Le_mepris_1.jpgMusic

-- Geek-chic electropop band Hot Chip brings the party to town. If you're expecting straight-up dance, brace for a few surprises. Our brothers and sisters at Austinist say their new record, Made in the Dark "sounds capital B bigger." Bostonist has to ask: than what? Paradise Rock Club, 967 Comm. Ave., 7:00 pm. (CR)

-- If you prefer electronic music without the pop (but with the beeps and feedback), British IDM icons Autechre might be your bag. Middle East, 472 Mass. Ave., Cambridge, 8:00pm. $18.

-- Oooh, Placido! Roll me over Romeo, there you go. Oh, wait--wrong singer? Anyway, Placido Domingo performs his first ever full-on concert in Boston tonight. Ana Maria Martinez, a Grammy-award-winning soprano, and a full orchestra will be there, too. No word yet on a surprise guest appearance from Mr. Morrison. Wang Theatre, 270 Tremont St., 8:00 pm, $45-250. (KS)

Movies

-- If you've always wanted to see a Godard film but cannot tolerate 20 minute long political speeches, Contempt is the answer to your prayers. Adapted from the Alberto Moravia novel about marital estrangement, Godard spins a fable about estrangement from cinema itself. Jack Palance plays an unruly American, and Brigitte Bardot and Michel Piccoli sweat sex. Fritz Lang as himself. Brattle Theatre, 40 Brattle St., Cambridge, through Thursday. Showtimes and tickets.
